Cookie Policy

This cookie policy explains how VanHack ("we", "our" or "us") uses cookies and similar technologies in the Platform and our other online services.

What are cookies and why do we use them?

Cookies are small text files stored in your browser’s memory by our websites. They are commonly used to support various functions on our websites.

Necessary cookies secure your session and keep the Platform working. With your permission, optional analytics cookies also help us understand which screens are useful and improve the product.

We do not send names, email addresses, searches or record identifiers to Google Analytics. Platform URLs and page titles are reduced to route templates before measurement. Google may still process technical information such as browser, device, approximate location and interaction data, which may be treated as personal data.

Depending on the job the cookie needs to perform, it may be a session or persistent cookie:

  • Persistent cookies are retained on your device until you either erase them or your browser erases them when the cookie reaches its expiration date.
  • Session cookies are temporary and expire once you close your browser or once your session ends.

What type of cookies do we use?

Strictly necessary cookies are always active because the Platform cannot securely operate without them. Google Analytics cookies are optional and are created only after you choose Allow analytics. Choosing Necessary only does not load the Google tag.

Strictly Necessary Cookies

Cookie Description
.AspNetCore.Cookies Holds an opaque session handle so you can remain securely signed in. The complete authentication ticket stays in the Platform's server-side session store.
AspNetCore.Antiforgery.* Helps prevent Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks.
XSRF-TOKEN Ensures visitor browsing-security by preventing cross-site request forgery. This cookie is essential for the security of the website and visitor.

Optional Analytics Cookies

Cookie Description Typical duration
vh_platform_ga Helps Platform Google Analytics distinguish browser instances for usage measurement. Up to 2 years
vh_platform_ga_* Maintains the state of the current Platform Google Analytics session. Up to 2 years

The Platform stores your analytics choice in local browser storage under vh.analytics.consent.v1. It remains until you change the choice or clear this site's browser data. Google Analytics event and user-level data retention is configured for 14 months.
